Peeling Bananas

Peeling Bananas

Juan’s mom taught him as a child in South America that the correct way to peel a banana is to start where the fruit still hangs on the bunch in the tree. When he studied in the US, he realised that the Americans did not know how to peel bananas at all. The start from the opposite end.

One day Juan tried to teach someone to peel a banana in the correct way and this person said: “You know, it doesn’t really matter that much how you peel a banana. All that matters is that you get to the fruit!” Juan said that this observation changed his life.  He realised that there could be more than one correct way of doing something in order to reach your goal. And sometimes one gets caught up in detail and misses the bigger picture and the overall goal.

For a marriage to be strong and healthy, it is very necessary to look beyond “the way to peel” and rather to enjoy and validate the person with whom you share your life.
